Regrinds: How to Send Tools In the Right Way (and Get Them Back Faster)

Regrinding is one of the easiest ways to save money without sacrificing performance.

2026-Regrinds-Checklist

You already know the value - extending tool life, reducing spend, and keeping production moving. But where things can go sideways is in the process of sending tools in.

A little upfront attention can make a big difference in turnaround time and avoid unnecessary delays (or worse - tools getting sent right back).

Here's how to do it right.

Before You Send Anything

Quick check - and this one matters:

Make sure the tools can actually be reground.

Not every tool is a good candidate. If you're unsure, it's always worth a quick call to 989.799.4550 or email regrinds@fullertontool.com before sending anything in.

We've seen situations where a full box gets shipped in - only to be returned at the customer's expense because the tools couldn't be reconditioned.

A quick check upfront saves time and money.

How to Package Your Tools

These are cutting tools - not bolts in a bin. Protect them.

  • Package tools individually when possible
  • Use adequate packing material to prevent movement and damage
  • Ship in a sturdy box that won't tear or break in transit

If tools show up damaged, it limits what we can do - and in some cases, they may not be salvageable.

Where It Goes Matters

This is a big one - and easy to miss.

Always label the shipment to our Regrind Department's attention:

Attention: Regrind Department
Fullerton Tool Company
121 Perry Street
Saginaw, MI 48602

Without it, packages can end up sitting in the wrong department for days before getting routed correctly.

It happens more than you'd think - and it slows everything down.

Include the Right Information

This is what keeps things moving.

Best Option: Fill out the Regrind Order Form and include it with your shipment. Download the form at: https://fullertontool.com/media/Fullerton-Regrind-Order-Form.pdf

This gives us everything we need upfront and helps avoid delays.

If you're not able to include the form, please make sure we have at least one of the following:

  • RFQ
  • Purchase Order
  • Contact information for quoting

No paperwork = delays. We need to know what to do with the tools and who to contact.

Regrind Checklist

Before you ship, run through this:

  1. Confirm tools are eligible for regrind
  2. Package tools individually with proper protection
  3. Use a strong, durable shipping box
  4. Clearly label: Attention: Regrind Department
  5. Include the Regrind Order Form
  6. Include RFQ, PO, or contact information

Bottom Line

Regrinding works best when the process is simple and consistent.

Send tools in the right way, and we can:

  • Turn them around faster
  • Maintain quality
  • Keep your operation moving
